Spring 2020 is here! This will be my first Spring here in Atlanta, GA as an adult. I lived here with my mom when I was a child and I do remember the Summer’s being brutal. But hey, if I can survive Florida, I can hang with Georgia. One fashion item that’s on my radar is linen. I purchasd this beautiful Freepeople dress from Tj Maxx last Spring and only wore it once smh. I wore it to a baby shower and got so many compliments I couldn’t wait to pull it out this year (also comes in 8 other colors). For some, only downfall to linen is the fact it wrinkles easily. In my opinion, the wrinkles adds to its charm. If wrinkles are bothersome to you, here are some tips below on how to avoid wrinkles while wearing linen. Other than that, here’s 2 reasons you should be adding linen to your wardrobe this Spring/Summer.

Comfortability
Linen has been used dating back to ancient Egypt time. Linen was worn to display wealth throughout life and the afterlife. Which is understandable considering Egypt is primarily made up of deserts and the temps get up to 104 degrees during the summer. Linen is perfect because it’s lightweight, thin, & breathable. It’s perfect for those hot summer days when you’re trying to keep cool. It’s also perfect for layering if you get cold with a cute cardigan or blazer.

Eco Friendly & Sustainable
Linen comes from flax seeds, and flax seeds grow naturally with rainwater. Making it the most eco-friendly fabric. With flax linen being natural it’s also recyclable and biodegradable! Linen is also stronger than cotton and doesn’t have to be starched during processing. Flax linen isn’t only used for fabrics, but also used for paper and its even used in the car industry! When choosing linen you’re lowering your carbon footprint.

- Wash in cold water with mild detergent and avoid twisting it while wet
- Dry Flat
- Iron when slightly damp while using the high steam setting (highly recommended)
- I also iron mine inside out once and once on the outside
- Use a steamer
- Starch only when the clothes are slightly damp and use sparingly. You don’t want your clothes to be stiff looking.
